This bill allows Joseph Fredrick, who is currently a part-time police officer in the village of Allegany, to take the competitive civil service examination for a full-time police officer position, even if it might otherwise be prohibited by existing law, specifically section 58 of the civil service law. If he scores well enough on this exam, he can then be placed on the list of eligible candidates for a full-time police officer job with the village, and he will still need to meet all other standard requirements for full-time police officers under the civil service law.
