This Joint Resolution commends Randall Franks and his project "A Zippedy Doodle Day: American Folk Songs" for their significant efforts in preserving Appalachian musical heritage and supporting Appalachian Music Scholarships. The resolution highlights Franks's background as an actor and musician with deep roots in East Tennessee, and his work on this project which aims to reintroduce the music of historic folk artists John "Doodle" Thrower and the Golden River Grass to new generations by releasing unreleased recordings and collaborating with contemporary artists. Importantly, proceeds from this project will benefit Appalachian music scholarships administered by the Share America Foundation, Inc., which supports talented graduating seniors from several Tennessee counties pursuing higher education in traditional Southern and Appalachian music, thereby fostering both cultural preservation and educational opportunities.
