This Resolution officially recognizes the significance of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month—celebrated every May to honor the profound historical, cultural, and economic contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) to the United States. Providing broader context, the text highlights the remarkable growth and rich diversity of the AANHPI population—which now represents over ten percent of the U.S. population across more than 70 distinct ethnicities—while acknowledging both historic milestones like the 1946 Luce-Celler Act (which allowed Filipino and Indian immigration and naturalization) and historical injustices, including the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 and the forced incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II under Executive Order 9066.
