This bill amends the Safe Drinking Water Act to establish new requirements for water bottling operations, including the need for a construction permit for waterworks systems and a water withdrawal permit for certain large-quantity withdrawals. It also introduces a licensing requirement for bottled water producers starting January 1, 2027, which will necessitate having both a construction permit and a water withdrawal permit, along with other required permits and an application fee. Furthermore, licensed bottled water producers will be required to pay a royalty of 25 cents per gallon of water bottled, with these funds going to the Michigan water trust fund.
