As a non-binding expression of Congress, the measure recognizes the critical contributions made by the more than five million registered nurses in the United States—who represent the largest segment of the nation's health care workforce—highlighting their roles as patient advocates, front-line responders during emergencies and wartime, researchers, and foundational pillars of public health. Furthermore, the Resolution encourages the American public to celebrate the week through local ceremonies, activities, and programs to honor nurses, while also emphasizing the ongoing need to strengthen nursing education, workforce development, and adequate staffing levels to ensure better patient outcomes and lower health care costs.
