Bill Summary
This bill requires the Department of Education to ensure that the results of any State assessment are provided to public schools no later than 30 days prior to the last day of each school year. The bill also provides that no later than 15 days following the receipt of State assessment results, a public school would provide to the parents or guardians of a student enrolled in the public school the student's results on the State assessment. Current State regulations require chief school administrators to provide educators, parents, and students with the results of State assessments within 30 days of receipt of the results from the department. However, State law and regulations do not establish a deadline by which the department is required to provide State assessment results to public schools. This bill would require the department to provide State assessment results to public schools no later than 30 days prior to the last day of each school year. The bill would also require public schools to provide State assessment results to parents and guardians of students enrolled in the public school no later than 15 days after receiving the results from the department.
AI Summary
This bill establishes new timelines for the Department of Education (DOE) and public schools regarding the sharing of State assessment results, which are tests required by law for specific grade levels or subjects. Specifically, the DOE must provide these assessment results to public schools at least 30 days before the last day of each school year. Following receipt of these results, public schools then have 15 days to share each student's individual assessment results with their parents or guardians. This aims to ensure that parents receive their children's academic performance data in a more timely manner than current regulations might allow, especially since there was no specific deadline for the DOE to release these results to schools.
