This bill amends the Patient Test Result Information Act to clarify definitions and establish new procedures for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test results. It defines "Department" as the Department of Health and "prostate-specific antigen test" as a blood test that measures PSA levels, which can indicate an increased risk of prostate cancer. The bill mandates that entities performing PSA tests must directly notify patients or their designees within five days of sending results to the ordering healthcare practitioner, if an abnormal PSA level is detected. This notification must include the ordering practitioner's name, test date, date results were sent, a summary of results in plain language, a recommendation to contact the practitioner, and contact information to obtain a full report. The notification can be sent via mail, email, electronic medical record alert, or facsimile. The Department of Health will also be responsible for creating and maintaining a publicly accessible list of age-appropriate normal and abnormal PSA levels based on scientific data, updating it as needed.
