This bill amends the "Shopping reform and modernization act" to require that when a consumer pays for an item with cash, the final price, which includes the item's price, any applicable sales tax, and container deposit, must be rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5 cents. This rounding down does not affect how sales or use taxes are calculated. The bill also clarifies definitions for terms like "advertisement," "automatic checkout system," "consumer item," "displayed," "final price," "person," and "sale at retail." It also maintains existing exceptions to displaying prices, such as for items sold by weight or volume, in vending machines, prepared food for immediate consumption, mail or catalog orders, unpackaged food, very small and inexpensive items, live plants and animals, vehicles and parts, small cigarette packages, individual greeting cards, and gift orders sent directly to the recipient.
