This bill amends Title 25 of the Delaware Code concerning renters insurance by adding a new section that clarifies a landlord's ability to require tenants to have renters insurance. Specifically, it prohibits landlords from forcing tenants to purchase insurance from a particular company or provider that the landlord is connected to. However, landlords can still mandate that tenants have renters insurance as part of their lease agreement, as long as the required coverage levels are clearly stated in the lease. If a tenant obtains renters insurance from any insurance company licensed to operate in Delaware, and that policy meets the coverage requirements outlined in the lease, the tenant will be considered to have fulfilled the insurance obligation.
