AI Summary

This bill, the Housing Rights for Victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence Act of 2011, aims to protect individuals who have experienced domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking by preventing their denial or termination from housing assistance programs, including the low-income housing tax credit program, if they otherwise qualify. It clarifies that certain criminal activities directly related to these forms of violence, committed by a household member or guest, should not lead to denial of assistance or eviction if the tenant or an immediate family member is the victim. The bill also mandates that owners and managers of housing receiving federal assistance must establish emergency transfer policies for victims and requires the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to create procedures for victims to receive Section 8 housing vouchers (a program providing rental assistance) if they need to relocate due to violence. The Act makes conforming amendments to the United States Housing Act of 1937 to align with these new protections.
