This bill, the National Silver Alert Act of 2011, directs the Attorney General to establish a national Silver Alert communications network within the Department of Justice (DOJ) to help find missing seniors. This network, managed by a designated Silver Alert Coordinator, will work with states to coordinate regional and local search efforts for individuals reported missing to law enforcement who meet state criteria for being a "missing senior." The bill also aims to ensure this network can operate in coordination with the AMBER Alert communications network, which is used to find missing children, to maximize efficiency. The Coordinator will set minimum standards for issuing and distributing alerts, provide training and information to relevant entities, and work to protect the privacy and dignity of missing seniors. The term "State" is broadly defined to include all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories.
