This bill establishes new provisions to enhance the safety of judges and their families by granting the Attorney General exclusive authority to investigate and prosecute criminal acts and threats against justices of the Supreme Judicial Court, Appeals Court, and Trial Court, as well as their immediate family members, with the assistance of the State Police for investigations and protection. Furthermore, it creates a new criminal offense for making threats against these judicial officials and their families, punishable by up to two and a half years in jail or ten years in state prison, along with a fine of up to $25,000. The bill also amends existing law to explicitly include threats against members of the judiciary under this new penalty.
