This bill mandates the establishment of a statewide automated victim information and notification (SAVIN) system by the Parole Board, which will automatically inform registered victims via phone, mail, or email about significant events concerning offenders housed in state correctional facilities or county jails. These events include transfers, releases, escapes, changes in security classification, upcoming court or parole hearings, and any changes to an offender's parole or probation status, including address updates. The system will also notify victims about updates or non-compliance with the state sex offender registry by registered sex offenders. Furthermore, victims will be able to access an offender's most recent status report and register or update their own information through a toll-free number or a public website, with live operator assistance available 24/7.
