This bill requires telephone solicitors, also known as telemarketers, to provide specific information to consumers when contacting them about fundraising or sweepstakes. Specifically, telemarketers must clearly state the full name of the company they work for, the percentage of any donation that goes to the fundraising company and the actual recipient of the donation, and, in the case of a sweepstakes, the odds of winning the prize. Violating these disclosure requirements gives consumers grounds to file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office, which is the chief legal officer of the state responsible for enforcing consumer protection laws.
