This bill directs the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), a state agency responsible for transportation infrastructure, to conduct a comprehensive study of highway noise levels. Specifically, MassDOT must investigate the noise generated by traffic on Route I-93, a major highway, along both its northbound and southbound lanes within the city of Quincy. The study's scope is defined as the section of I-93 between exit 10, which is Squantum Street/Milton, and the point where I-93 splits with Route 3. The purpose of this study is to measure the current ambient noise levels caused by existing traffic on this stretch of highway, and this work is to be carried out by an acoustical engineer working for or on behalf of MassDOT.
