This bill requires companies that enter into contracts with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to disclose their past involvement in the historic slave trade. Specifically, companies must submit an affidavit certifying that they have searched their records, including those of their majority-owned subsidiaries and predecessor companies, for any participation in, investments in, or profits derived from slavery during the "Slavery Era," which is defined as prior to 1889 in North and South America. This disclosure must include any slaveholder insurance policies issued and, if possible, the names of enslaved persons or slaveholders involved. These requirements apply to companies and their related entities that existed before 1889.
