This bill amends existing law to prohibit anyone, regardless of age, from using a wireless telephone while driving a motor vehicle on a road within a school speed zone, which are areas with reduced speed limits to protect children. This restriction is in place to enhance safety in areas where children are present. The bill does, however, allow for exceptions for emergency use of a wireless telephone, such as by law enforcement, healthcare providers, fire departments, or other emergency services when performing their official duties.
