This bill proposes to amend Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 90 by adding a new section that would allow for discounted vehicle registration fees for certain light vehicles. Specifically, for model year 2012 and newer vehicles that are not already exempt from registration fees and whose fees are not based on weight, the registration fee would be adjusted. This adjustment, called the "registration adjustment amount," would be calculated by taking the vehicle's manufacturer-reported curb weight, subtracting 3,000 pounds, and then multiplying that by one dollar and dividing by ten. The bill also sets limits on this adjustment, ensuring it will not decrease the registration fee by more than $20 or increase it by more than $200, and the final amount will be rounded to the nearest whole dollar.
