This bill proposes to amend Chapter 105A of existing law by adding a new Section 9 concerning self-service storage facilities. The key provision requires operators of these facilities to maintain a permanent register detailing the true name and last known address of every occupant, along with the unit assigned and the rental period. While occupants generally must make their own entries, groups of five or more with a common interest can designate one person to do so. Until this registration is complete, individuals will not be permitted to occupy a unit. The register must be kept for at least one year after the last entry and be accessible to licensing authorities, their agents, and the police. Violating these provisions could result in a fine of $100 to $500, imprisonment for up to three months, or both.
