This bill proposes to amend Section 2E of Chapter 90 of the General Laws, which deals with motor vehicle registration, to allow for the creation and issuance of distinctive license plates for the University of Massachusetts. These special plates will feature a design that shows support for the university, and owners of private passenger motor vehicles can apply for them. There will be an additional fee of at least $20 for these plates, on top of the regular registration fee, which will be collected at the time of registration and any subsequent renewals. After covering the costs associated with producing these plates, the remaining funds will be sent to the general fund of the University of Massachusetts within 90 days of being received.
