This bill mandates that the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) conduct routine and special inspections of the Long Island Bridge in Boston, which connects Moon Island and Long Island, on a quarterly basis to assess its safety and longevity. If MassDOT determines that any critical structural components of the bridge are in serious condition, the City of Boston will then be required to establish an alternative, cost-effective transportation method, such as a water shuttle or barge service, to access Long Island within 90 days of the inspection.
