This bill aims to establish clearer timeframes for investigations conducted by the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD), which handles complaints of discrimination. Specifically, it mandates that investigations into housing discrimination complaints must be completed within 100 days of receiving the complaint, unless it's impractical. For all other types of discrimination complaints handled by the MCAD, investigations must be finished within 12 months of receipt. If the MCAD cannot meet these deadlines, they are required to inform both the person who filed the complaint (the Complainant) and the party accused of discrimination (the Respondent) about the reasons for the delay and propose an extension of up to six additional months.
