This bill allows cities and towns to offer tax relief to senior citizens by enabling their boards of assessors, or tax officials, to reduce or eliminate the portion of property taxes that fund public elementary and secondary education for residents aged 65 and older. This relief, known as an abatement, would only apply to a senior's primary home, and the city or town could choose to limit the abatement to 50% of the school portion of their tax bill.
