This bill establishes limited civil liability for sports officials, meaning they generally cannot be sued for injuries or damages that occur as a result of their officiating duties within the athletic facility where a contest is held. Sports officials are broadly defined to include referees, umpires, linemen, and those in similar roles who are registered or members of an organization that provides training for officials. However, this protection does not extend to officials whose actions or inactions are intentional, willful, wanton, reckless, malicious, or grossly negligent. The law takes effect immediately and applies to all lawsuits filed after its effective date, even if the alleged actions or inactions occurred before the law was enacted.
