AI Summary

This bill, the Livestock Disaster Protection Act, amends the Federal Crop Insurance Act to extend certain disaster assistance programs for livestock producers from fiscal year 2012 through fiscal year 2018. It provides livestock indemnity payments, which are payments to eligible producers for livestock death losses exceeding normal mortality, at 75% of the market value. These payments cover losses due to attacks by federally protected or reintroduced animals, such as wolves and avian predators, as well as adverse weather conditions like hurricanes, floods, blizzards, extreme heat, disease, and wildfires. The bill also offers compensation for livestock grazing losses caused by specific drought or fire conditions, though it excludes grazing losses on conservation reserve program land used for haying or grazing. Additionally, it establishes emergency relief for eligible producers of livestock, honeybees, and farm-raised fish to help mitigate losses from disease, adverse weather, or other conditions not covered by the other provisions, with a total annual cap of $20 million for this emergency assistance.
