This bill extends the authority for veterans to receive work-study allowances, which are additional payments for educational assistance, from June 30, 2013, to June 30, 2016. These allowances are for individuals pursuing rehabilitation, education, or training programs administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The bill also expands this work-study program to include certain outreach services provided through congressional offices, such as distributing information about VA benefits and services to servicemembers, veterans, and their families, and assisting with the preparation of benefit claims. Additionally, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs is required to submit annual reports to Congress detailing the work-study allowances paid, the recipients, the locations where activities took place, and outreach efforts made to inform eligible individuals about the program.
