This bill amends Florida law to prevent health insurers, prepaid limited health service organizations (organizations that offer a limited scope of health services for a prepaid fee), and health maintenance organizations (HMOs, which provide comprehensive health services for a fixed prepaid fee) from forcing dentists to accept fees set by the insurer or organization for services that are not considered "covered services" under the patient's plan. "Covered services" are defined as dental care for which reimbursement is available, even if limitations like deductibles or waiting periods apply. The bill also clarifies that health insurers cannot require dentists to accept terms from other contracts, except in specific group practice situations, and makes this change applicable to contracts entered into or renewed on or after July 1, 2014.
