This bill, the Servicemembers Transition Improvement Act of 2013, requires the Secretary of Defense to establish a pilot program to test whether sharing information about service members leaving the military with state veterans agencies would help them transition to civilian life. This information would include their Department of Defense Form DD 214 (a document summarizing their military service), personal email address, personal phone number, and mailing address, and participation by service members would be voluntary. The information would be provided electronically, and state veterans agencies could then share it with county veterans service offices to assist with this transition. The Secretary of Defense must submit a report to Congress about the pilot program's findings and any recommendations for its continuation or expansion within 15 months of the bill's enactment.
