AI Summary

This bill, the Extreme Weather Mitigation Act of 2013, directs the Secretary of the Army to prioritize funding for projects and studies aimed at reducing hurricane and storm damage. This priority will be given to initiatives that address immediate dangers to people and property, prevent widespread flooding from storm surges, protect vital coastal wetlands that absorb storm impacts, safeguard evacuation routes and shelters, prevent damage to public infrastructure, reduce the need for federal disaster relief, and focus on areas already declared major disaster zones by the President. The bill also mandates expedited review for existing water resources projects that meet these criteria and sets guidelines for prioritizing new studies for hurricane and storm damage reduction, particularly those recommended by the Army Corps of Engineers or included in state plans, and for disaster-affected areas.
