This bill amends the law governing the New Jersey Turnpike Authority to ensure representation from specific regions of the state on its board. Currently, the Authority has eight members: the Commissioner of Transportation (or their designee), five members appointed by the Governor, and two members appointed by the Governor based on recommendations from the Senate President and the Speaker of the General Assembly. This bill adds a requirement that among the appointed members, there must be at least one resident from each of the following groups of counties: Atlantic, Cape May, or Ocean; Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, or Salem; Mercer, Middlesex, or Monmouth; and Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Union, or Passaic. This change aims to provide a more geographically diverse representation on the Authority, which is responsible for the acquisition, construction, operation, and maintenance of transportation projects like the New Jersey Turnpike. The bill takes effect immediately and applies to new appointments made after its enactment.
