This bill makes it illegal for individuals classified as "sex offenders" – meaning those convicted of certain sex offenses, particularly those involving victims under 18, or similar offenses under foreign or other U.S. jurisdictions – to use "social networking websites," defined as internet sites where users create profiles with personal information accessible to others and can communicate with each other. Violating this prohibition is a third-degree crime. Additionally, sex offenders must provide their email addresses, usernames, or any internet identifiers to the chief law enforcement officer in their municipality, and failing to do so, or providing false information, is a fourth-degree crime. The bill takes effect immediately.
