This bill, known as the "Ethan Rediske Act," revises how assessment results for certain students with disabilities are handled and establishes new eligibility criteria for these assessments. Specifically, it amends existing law to allow for the waiver of statewide, standardized assessment results for students with disabilities whose Individualized Education Program (IEP) team determines that these tests cannot accurately measure their abilities, even with accommodations, for the purpose of calculating course grades or receiving a standard high school diploma. The bill also introduces a provision that allows students with severe cognitive or physical disabilities, as documented by a physician and approved by the district school superintendent with parental consent, to be deemed ineligible to participate in state assessments, including the Florida Alternate Assessment, if they lack the capacity to take or perform on such tests.
