This bill, also known as the Military Opportunities for Mothers Act or the MOM Act, aims to provide additional leave for members of the Armed Forces in connection with the birth of a child. Specifically, it amends Title 10 of the United States Code to grant a service member who gives birth 42 days of convalescent leave, which is a type of leave taken for recovery. Additionally, at the service member's discretion, they can take up to 42 more days of leave of absence after their convalescent leave ends. During this additional leave, the service member will not receive basic pay but will still be considered on active duty for all other purposes, and their commanding officer can recall them to duty if necessary for unit readiness.
