This bill, titled the Opportunity for Military Academies and Readiness Act, would allow certain aliens who are present in the United States and have been granted deferred action and work authorization under the Department of Homeland Security's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to be appointed to and attend U.S. military service academies, such as the United States Military Academy, the Naval Academy, and the Air Force Academy, provided they meet all other admission requirements except for U.S. citizenship. Upon graduation from these academies, these individuals would also be eligible to be appointed as commissioned officers in the Armed Forces, though this provision does not alter existing pathways for naturalization through military service.
