This bill mandates that New Jersey boards of education must incorporate instruction and adopt teaching materials that accurately reflect the political, economic, and social contributions of individuals with disabilities and those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. This requirement applies to middle and high school students as part of the social studies curriculum, and when selecting instructional materials, boards must ensure they depict the cultural and economic diversity of society, including the contributions of these groups. The law takes effect immediately and will be implemented starting with the 2015-2016 school year.
