This bill, known as the Students Voicing Opinions in Today's Elections (VOTE) Act, aims to increase voter registration among high school seniors by directing the Election Assistance Commission to run a pilot program. This program, funded for fiscal year 2015, will provide money to local educational agencies (LEAs), which are school districts, to develop initiatives that give 12th graders information on how to register to vote. As part of developing these initiatives, LEAs that receive funding must work with their state and local election officials to ensure the programs are effective and properly implemented. The bill also requires LEAs to report on the initiatives they carry out and their effectiveness, and the Election Assistance Commission will then report to Congress on the overall pilot program.
