This bill amends existing law to require the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (the "commission") to conduct studies and planning to designate specific corridors within the state where new transmission lines, defined as electric transmission lines and associated facilities operating at a nominal voltage of 230 kilovolts or more, can be sited. The purpose of these designated corridors is to minimize negative impacts on environmental values, power system reliability, land use conflicts, and aesthetics, while also meeting other state or local requirements. Under the bill, the commission will not approve any proposed transmission line that is located outside of these designated corridors. The bill also makes a technical correction by changing a reference from subsection "J" to subsection "K" regarding the timeframes for the commission to issue orders on applications.
