This bill directs the Board of Education to create new ways to rate public schools, going beyond the current system that only recognizes schools meeting specific benchmarks, which are established standards for school performance. These new ratings will acknowledge schools that, while not meeting all benchmarks, have shown significant improvement in student pass rates, are close to meeting the benchmarks, or have helped most of their students make substantial academic progress. The Board is required to put these new rating regulations into effect by the 2016-2017 school year.
