This protection is based on existing state laws (1973 PA 116, MCL 722.124e and 722.124f) and ensures that the state or local governments cannot penalize these agencies for declining services that go against their religious convictions. The bill also clarifies that this legislation is intended to protect religious freedom and does not aim to restrict anyone's right to adopt a child.
