AI Summary

This bill modifies Mississippi's gas and oil severance tax laws by including carbon dioxide within the definition of "gas" for severance tax purposes, meaning it will now be subject to this tax. It also removes an exemption that previously allowed gas lawfully injected into the earth for oil recovery processes, such as cycling or repressuring, to be free from severance tax. However, to encourage the use of carbon dioxide in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods, the bill introduces a credit against the oil severance tax. This credit will be equal to the amount of gas severance tax paid on the carbon dioxide used in EOR to produce oil, effectively offsetting the tax burden on the carbon dioxide used in these specific oil production techniques.
