This bill, known as the Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business Relief Act, aims to provide continued support for surviving spouses who take over small businesses from their service-disabled veteran partners. Specifically, it amends existing law to allow these surviving spouses to be treated as the deceased veteran for the purpose of meeting the Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) contracting goals and preferences for service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses. The duration of this special treatment depends on the veteran's disability status at the time of death: surviving spouses will be eligible for 10 years if the veteran was 100% disabled or died from a service-connected disability, and for 3 years if the veteran was less than 100% disabled and did not die from a service-connected disability. This provision is intended to offer a more stable transition for these businesses and ensure continued opportunities for veteran entrepreneurs.
