AI Summary

This bill, the Dignified Interment of Our Veterans Act of 2015, mandates that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) conduct a comprehensive study and report to Congress on the issue of interring unclaimed veteran remains in national cemeteries managed by the National Cemetery Administration. The study will examine the extent of the problem, including estimating the number of unclaimed veteran remains, evaluate the VA's current procedures for working with entities that have custody of these remains to facilitate their burial, and assess how state and local laws might hinder the VA's ability to inter unclaimed veterans. Based on these findings, the VA will also provide recommendations for any necessary legislative or administrative changes. Additionally, the bill amends the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014 to cap the total amount of awards and bonuses that can be paid to Senior Executive Service (SES) employees within the VA at $2 million for fiscal year 2016. SES employees are high-level officials within government agencies.
