This bill proposes to amend Chapter 127 of the General Laws by adding a new section, Section 41B, concerning the time of sentence for prisoners placed in disciplinary detention. Specifically, it states that any prisoner ordered to serve time in disciplinary detention following a disciplinary hearing will not have any of that time deducted from their overall sentence. This disciplinary detention time will be recorded by the superintendent, and prisoners will retain the right to appeal their confinement through institutional and court systems. The bill also allows for the possibility of restoring forfeited days after an inmate's release from disciplinary or administrative segregation if they demonstrate improved behavior and participate in programs, provided they remain discipline-free. However, this provision will not apply to prisoners placed in segregation for non-disciplinary or protective reasons.
