This bill modifies how affordable housing units are counted for the Town of Littleton to determine if it meets a state-mandated threshold, specifically concerning Chapter 40B of the General Laws, which governs affordable housing development. The Subsidized Housing Inventory (SHI), maintained by the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development, will now include affordable housing units approved under local zoning laws (Chapter 40A), including those in a Local Initiative Program project, as long as they have a permanent deed restriction for "Income Eligible Households" (meaning households with incomes below a certain level defined by state regulations). It also includes affordable housing units in homeownership or rental projects approved under Chapter 40B or Chapter 40R. Importantly, if an approval decision for such housing is appealed, the units will remain on the SHI until the decision is definitively overturned by a court. This change applies to housing units approved and filed with the Littleton Town Clerk on or after January 1, 2000.
