This bill establishes a pilot program to install silent alarm systems in twelve randomly selected schools, including private, public, pilot, and charter schools, across the commonwealth. The Department of Education will collaborate with the Department of Public Safety to implement this program, which will connect these silent alarms directly to the 911 emergency system and local first responders. When activated, these alarms, which can be in the form of buttons, key fobs, or pendants, will immediately notify a monitoring center and dispatch the appropriate authorities to the school's location, providing a quick response for various emergencies such as hold-ups, break-ins, or fires.
