This bill amends existing law regarding transportation for students attending vocational schools in a different town than where they reside. Specifically, it allows a town to provide transportation for a student admitted to a vocational school in another town, and to charge a fee for this service, regardless of where the student lives. However, students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunches under the federal school lunch program will not have to pay this fee, though school committees can choose to exempt other families based on income. The bill also clarifies that transportation will not be provided for students living less than 1.5 miles from the school they attend, nor for those who have already completed twelfth grade or its equivalent.
