This bill establishes limited civil liability for sports officials, meaning they generally cannot be sued for injuries or damages that occur during athletic contests they officiate within the facility, provided their actions or inactions were not intentional, willful, wanton, reckless, malicious, or grossly negligent. Sports officials are defined as individuals serving as referees, umpires, linemen, or in similar roles, who are registered or members of an organization that offers education and training for officials. This law will take effect immediately and apply to all lawsuits filed after that date, even if the alleged actions occurred before the law's enactment.
