This bill proposes to amend existing law regarding the filling of vacancies on municipal housing or redevelopment authorities, which are governmental bodies responsible for urban renewal and housing projects. Specifically, it addresses situations where the state department responsible for these authorities fails to fill a vacancy within a set timeframe. If the department does not fill a vacancy within 150 days of it occurring, or within 120 days of an application being submitted (but no more than 150 days total), the bill allows local officials to appoint someone to fill the position. In towns, this appointment would be made by a majority vote of the board of selectmen and the current members of the redevelopment authority. In cities, the mayor would appoint someone, subject to confirmation by the city council. The appointed person would serve for the remainder of the original term.
