This bill establishes a system for automatically updating voter registration information when registered voters move within Massachusetts, aiming to ensure their registration remains current without requiring them to re-register. The State Secretary will periodically, at least every three months, receive electronic data from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles and the U.S. Postal Service to identify registered voters who have changed their address within the Commonwealth. This data will include identifying information such as name, new and old addresses, date of birth, and driver's license or social security number, along with details of the address change. If this information indicates a more recent address than what is currently on file in the Central Voter Registry, the State Secretary will update the voter's record and notify local election officials, known as municipal registrars, to update their local voter lists. Voters whose addresses are updated will also receive written notification of the change and their new polling location. This new process will take effect one year after the bill is passed.
