This bill amends existing law to require police stations to provide information identifying individuals classified as level 1 sex offenders, but only upon written application from the public and without public distribution of the information. Level 1 sex offenders are those deemed by a board to pose the lowest risk of reoffending. While the general public will have access to this information at the police station, the bill also specifies that police and the board may release identifying information about these offenders to various government agencies, including the department of correction, correctional facilities, the department of youth services, the department of children and families, the parole board, the department of probation, the department of mental health, all local police departments, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
